The Dalai Mama Chronicles by Wendy Silvers

Dear Mama,

Hi, I’m Wendy Silvers, AKA Mama Wendy.

Welcome to the Dalai Mama Chronicles, a monthly column for you—a modern day, soulful, awakening and awakened mystical mom and changemaker—committed to parenting consciously and creating a life of inner peace, purpose, and prosperity. We’re going to get real and unfiltered about what it takes to be both the best mama you can be and an effective changemaker in these turbulent times.
You are the heart of the home, a dream catcher, and weaver; a Creative Everything Officer.

From the moment you found out you were pregnant or were about to adopt, you began formulating dreams—for yourself,  your marriage/relationship, and for your unborn child. From the kind of birth you would have to the kind of life you would like your child to have, your desire to create a loving and rich family environment for your child to thrive was so compelling that you couldn’t ignore it.

Your life as it was, is now vastly different.

Your relationship with yourself and to the world shifted seismically.

As a baby is born, so is a mother.

You are now Mother.
Powerful. Protector. Provider.
Doctor. Nurse. Teacher. Healer.
Counselor. Coach. Cheerleader.
You’re busy from sunup til sundown.
I get it.
You have an ache, a hunger in your heart to do more, be more, to give more, which will not go away. AND let’s keep it real.
Motherhood is not all unicorns and rainbows.

It’s hard to admit (there’s that old standby, mother’s guilt), but sometimes you may not like your children’s behavior or who they’re being, and you want to throw your hands in the air, toss in the towel, trade in your job description and fly off to a beach on a tropical island! I totally get it.

I am the proud mom of an amazing 17-year-old girl whom I birthed at home with no meds, two midwives, a midwife in training, a doula, my husband, and two of our best friends. In an 850 sq. ft apartment with a tub in the bedroom. Her birth took 32 hours of labor. What an intensely challenging, beautiful, and transcendent experience! It began the greatest love affair I have ever had in my life. And, my career.

My experience with midwives was so positive that I thought I might like to be a midwife.

I soon experienced the bone-weary, mind-numbing, sleep deprivation that comes with new motherhood. It was brutal. So, I decided to continue with my studies of becoming a midwife of consciousness.

Being a mom is synonymous with being a Sacred Activist to me. I will advocate on behalf of my child on issues I never did before her birth. What I have learned firsthand is that it must be done from a place of centeredness and inspired action.

I am lit up from within to ensure that my daughter, all children, mothers, and women have freedom, choices, opportunity, love and prosperity. It is a compelling force within me. I know the commitment it takes to remain rooted in truth, peace, and love when the appearances are anything but that. And it’s a daily choice. Sometimes, hourly.

I intend to help you by sharing what has helped my clients and me. I am a better woman because I am my daughter’s mother. She has helped me heal places within myself that I could not heal. Being her mother, I knew I wanted to break cycles from my childhood. And I have. I will share how you can break cycles, too.

Motherhood is not all unicorns and rainbows

Each month I will feature either an anecdote, slice of life, tip, tool, or tidbit to help you stay centered in your heart and grounded in truth in these turbulent times.

Who IS a Dalai Mama?

• A mom who cares deeply about mothering through the lens of compassion, connection, and empathy.
• A mom who takes time to mother herself.
• A woman aligned with the rhythms of the Universe so that she can draw upon the cycles and seasons to empower her purpose.
• A woman dedicated to being the best mother and/or change agent she can be.
• A stand for peace and well-being for all women and children.
• A mom devoted to leaving a legacy of love for her children and all children.

You might relate to all of these descriptions of a Dalai Mama or have some of your own. We are redesigning what modern-day motherhood is. The old paradigm of motherhood no longer applies. We are pioneers in creating a new empowered definition of motherhood. When you, as mother, embody your authentic power you are a force of nature; unstoppable, magnetic, unyielding, confident, bold, and unapologetic. Now, more than ever, you have a golden opportunity to co-create a meaningful life of prosperity and fulfillment. You don’t have to be a woman trying to fit into anyone’s idea of what you should be/do in the world. You can rock yo’ feminine, juicy, powerful baaad self and soar!

The old paradigm of motherhood no longer applies. We are pioneers in creating a new empowered definition of motherhood.

Here are 7 steps that you can take right now:

1. Create a sacred space in your home where you can sit and be still. Go within on a consistent basis and nurture your dreams and visions. Try sitting for five minutes in the morning when you wake up, and five minutes before sleep. This is also a great way to calm your children when emotions are running high.

2. Unplug from social media. Focus on BE-ing. Slow down. Take a walk in nature. Take a bath. Listen to your favorite music.

3. Awaken your deep feminine wisdom and intuition so that you can access it for well-being and prosperity.

4. Befriend the parts that you don’t like about yourself. Notice them, embrace them, and then they have no power.

5. Be a good steward of your own and your children’s heart and soul. Be mindful of your words and actions. Take pauses. Be present. Have fun.

6. Say YES to your freedom and prosperity. Stretch beyond your comfort zone of perhaps settling for what you don’t want. Be willing to be bigger than you think you are.

7. Let go of self-judgment. Be gentle with yourself. Treat yourself like your child when they were learning to walk.

Practice these 7 steps for the next 30 days. Let me know how it’s going for you. Please email your comments to me at wendy@wendysilvers.com

Know that it is your birthright to shine, rise, and prosper! I am linking arms with you as we journey together.

We are going to wade deep into the waters of motherhood and womanhood in today’s world.

Together, one mother to another, we will uplift each other with kindness, compassion, caring, tears, and laughter. As we uplevel our lives, the world and those around us thrive and prosper, too.
