6 2008: Nancy Carlsson-Paige
- Taking Back Childhood
Renowned early childhood expert, and mother of actor Matt Damon, Nancy
Carlsson-Paige, has over 30 years experience researching
and writing about child development. She is a professor of early childhood
education and conflict resolution at Lesley University in Cambridge,
Massachusetts, and an ongoing consultant for several PBS kids' shows,
as well as an active public speaker and guest lecturer across the
USA. Her work has been featured in Time, The Wall Street Journal,
Parenting, Mothering, and USA Today and on NPR, the Discovery Channel
and ABC. Topics include: How and why childhood as we know it is being
stolen from our kids and the practical steps that parents and adults
can take to start fighting back; Why play is such a critical factor
in healthy child development and Why 'brainy baby' type DVD's do more
damage to infants than good.

(AKA Chef Teton) - Proper Food/Healthy Children
A food professional for over twenty years, Chef
Susan Teton is on a culinary crusade. Spurred on by
the success of the Healthy School Lunch Action Guide, which she co-authored,
and which has won endorsements from the USDA, California State Child
and Nutrition Department and Physicians Committee for Responsible
Medicine, Susan has produced 'Essential Cuisine' to bring highly functional
foods to families. Topics include: Why ADD, obesity, and diabetes
in kids is escalating and what parents need to know to help their
children; The importance of fatty acids in brain function, and ways
to make sure our kids are get sufficient; How to deal with children's
sugar cravings, and turn them on to the joys of healthy, living foods,
and 3 simple, easy to implement steps that can immediately improve
our own and our children's immune systems.

20th: ELLEN K - How Children Teach Adults
The youngest of six Norwegian children, TV and radio personality Ellen
K's relaxed and easy manner in front of a camera and behind a microphone
has led to a successful career in both radio and television. She co-hosted
with Wayne Brady on his Emmy award winning talk show and worked as
a correspondent for the popular entertainment news show, Extra. Ellen
has also served as a music and entertainment expert for KCAL-TV in
Los Angeles, and acted as correspondent for the syndicated program,
Real TV. Ellen now enjoys her mornings with Ryan Seacrest on the wildly
popular and #1 rated KIIS-FM morning program.

27th: Mike Seymour - Meaningful Change In Education
Mike is President of The Heritage Institute, a progressive program
of continuing education for teachers, offering place-based earth and
social history programs and leading edge educational curriculum through
field studies, workshops, distance courses and foreign travel programs
to educators around the world. The Founder and President of the Board
of Youth for a New World, he initiated its first program, the AfricaAmericaExchange,
linking students in Burundi, Central Africa and the USA. He is the
author of Educating for Humanity: Rethinking the Purposes of Education,
and producer of a video on progressive schools, which he presents
at conferences across the USA. Topics include: Why
our current education system is short-changing our kids; What's possible
today for meaningful change in education; The most important things
parents can do today for their kids and their education.
